The McMystery

Where did McDonalds go? I came back from vacation and it was just a pile of rubble.

Meet Helen

So I am a bit late in posting about the Saving Main Street rally that took place a few months back... but I did attend and take some photos and had a great time. This is Helen and she makes the most AMAZING blessing gowns. Check out her website. She has a business, You Will Be Blessed, along Main Street here in American Fork.

Her website tells this about her:

"Helen is the designer and creator of our baby gowns. She was professionally trained in Europe and has over 30 years of sewing experience, including 13 years sewing for world famous designer Christian Dior in New York City. She now lives in Highland, Utah with her family."

You should definitely stop by if you are heading down Main Street or look at her website for any and all of your baby blessing gown needs. Her work is spectacular and she is an incredibly nice person.

Rally Tomorrow: "Saving Main Street"

This is the very cool and always yummy Flour Girls and Dough Boys bakery, just around the corner from the dollar theater. Where is everyone?? Well, it was Sunday when I snapped this photo, so they were closed. BUT... make sure and stop by tomorrow (Saturday Feb 28) from 12 to 4 for the:

SAVING MAIN STREET RALLY

The Saving Main Street Blog says this:

"The rally will feature local bands, other small Main Street businesses and general, family-friendly merriment. If you don’t want to see Utah Valley lose its soul, then come and bring all your friends! "

You can also read about it on the Flour Girls and Dough Boys website.

See you there!!

A Little More Fablehaven: Muriel

Our friend, Muriel, was handing out curses that could only be cured by a fairie "kiss". While we were talking, someone came by and blew on one of her knots, which, if you have read the books, is BAD NEWS!

Brandon Mull at the AF Library Fablehaven Activity

The Fablehaven activity at the Library was FABULOUS. So much creativity and hardwork went into the details. We had a blast. This is Brandon Mull, author of the Fablehaven series. I have read the first two books, but need to start the third, since my hubby just finished this weekend.
Brandon Mull had a very friendly and fun question and answer session, followed by signing autographs. I dressed as Hugo (Huga??), though most people couldn't tell, and went with two handsome satyrs. A very fun time!!

Husband and Wife

There was a slight "stink" when this store moved to town last year, but apparently, that has blown over.

The Glass Slipper

One day this spring, while out for a walk, I stopped in with a friend to see this little shop. I was enthralled! This basement store is packed with the most adorable and amazing dancing costumes for ballerinas of all ages.

It reminded me of when I worked at the University during summer term and the dance camps would come use the ballroom. Seen Strictly Ballroom? Not exactly like that, but sort of. :)
I wish they had a website I could link to, but a google search came up with nothing. You will just have to stop by!

Quilting Cottage

I got inspired by themeday yesterday and will spend a few days showcasing other stores in American Fork.

The Quilting Cottage is located across from the library. I love to go there to
A. Buy the cutest fabric in the county
B. Look at the cutest fabric in the county
C. Get inspired by all of the cute sample quilts hanging on the walls
If you are anywhere in Utah or Salt Lake county and a quilter, I am sure you have been here. If you haven't, you will want to!

American Fork's Parking Meter Plague

This unusual monument stands in front of the Historic City Hall. I have posted it before, but that was when I didn't know anything about it. Lori from the Art's Council explained to me that American Fork's downtown used to have parking meters all up and down the main street. She remembers going downtown with her mother and putting money into the meters. This memorial tombstone was erected when the parking meters were done away with.

Historic City Hall: Safe

While photographing Historic City Hall, I met Lori from the American Fork Arts Council. She was extremely helpful in telling me some history and pointing out things I wouldn't want to miss.

She showed me this safe, which is located in the Art's Council's office. It is the original safe used by the city of American Fork to protect legal documents. Years ago it was painted over WHITE. When they restored City Hall, they had the safe restored to it's original beauty as well.

Along Main Street in American Fork is the most charming little shop, "You'll Be Blessed". Helen is the owner and is a delight to talk to. She is an amazing seamstress and the baby blessing outfits she makes are the cutest EVER. Check out her online store.
